How to Study the Bible Step-by-Step

Have you been eager to start studying the Bible, but you are just not sure how? I have a whole video series on Bible Study for Beginners that will walk you through some of the different methods of Bible study and that is a great way to get started.

But if you are looking for a little more, well then I have got you covered in this new Bible Study!

We are going to study the book of 2 Corinthians together!

I am going to show you a simplified version of my own Bible study method. I use the Inductive study method. You can see my method and the different aspects of it in this video series, but I wanted to break it down for those who are just starting to dig a bit deeper. I do not want you to get lost in all of the things, so I have broken this down into 2 levels.

I have worksheet for you and for the first two chapters I will be with you every day!

I am passionate about getting women into the word of God!

Ready to get started?

First, head over and grab your printables –

You will notice a few other files at the link above. These are some of the files that I shared for the book of 1 Corinthians that will match 2 Corinthians. You are welcome to use those with this study however you wish.

Then check out this video…

Ok, so now you know all about the printable that I have created for you. Now let’s talk about how to set up your book. This can be done in many different ways. If you want to see how I normally set mine up, you can check out this video. But this time I will be setting it up a bit different and the video below will show you that.

For copywriting reasons, I can’t create an entire 2 Corinthians PDF file for you, so you will need to first decide if you are going to create pages in something like Google Pages or Word, or if you are just going to write your own. If you are going to write your own, then you are welcome to use the lined paper that I have with the other printables.

Then you need to decide if you are going to use the printable worksheet that I gave you, or just use it as a template on your own paper.

For this study, I am going to use the printable and create the double-spaced copy of the chapters. Since I am using it for my own personal use, it shouldn’t be a problem. I will print the verses on one side and the worksheet on the other. Then add in the cover, some note pages in the back and bind it!

I show you how to get it all together in this video…

Here are the supplies that I used to create the book…

28lb Printer Paper:

Binding Machine (or take to the office supply store)

Binding Rings

Plastic Covers

And the FREE Printalbles linked above

I will mostly be using these pens

And probably these colored Pencils

Ok, Are You Ready!?

We are now ready to start our study. One of the most important things about studying the Bible is to make sure that you are studying verses in their context. The context of the chapter, and of the book, and of the time period and authors intent.

When we do not do this, we run into lots of problems!

So, the first thing that we are going to do is, read the entire book of 2 Corinthians! Preferably all in one sitting! I would also be helpful to listen to it as well as read it though in a different version. Especially as a beginner you may need a version that is a bit easier to read to help out a bit. I always suggest studying with an NASB version. But for reading the second time, I would suggest either an NIV, NLT, or a CSB.

Here are my favorites:

It is also helpful to read the “About the Chapter” section of your Bible, if they have that. This will give you some background information about the book, the author, let you know when it was written, usually why it was written, as well as the main topics of the book. This will help you as you go to study the individual chapters

As you do this you may want to use the “Notes” page to write down any questions that you have or things that you notice, or even things/topics that you super interested in. Bible Study is supposed to be an amazing exploration of who God is, and what He wants us to know about Himself and how to be who He created us to be. So, make sure that you are studying the things that interest you!

I created a video for you that will be out on Monday sharing this with you.

Once you have read the book all the way through it is time to start our individual chapter study!

Chapter Study

Here is where we are going to break things up. If you are unsure of starting this and how it is going to go, you can start with the LEVEL 1 study.

This will get you digging in but is also simple and covers a most important part of Bible study, learning about God!

Here is what you are going to do if you are studying at the LEVEL 1.

Don’t dive in just yet…we are going to walk through all of this together!

Now, if you think you can handle that and a bit more, then I have a LEVEL 2 for you!

This is everything above plus a few more tasks. There is also a printable that will give you all of the boxes, you just have to put the information in them!

LEVEL 2 will look like this…

Ok, now that we kinda have an idea of what we are doing, let’s dive into 2 Corinthians!

Make sure that you get all of the reading and note taking done for the entire book before you move on with me. We MUST grasp the context of the entire book before we jump into the individual chapters.

You can check out this video where I go through some of the information from our checklist for the entire book portion.
